Click this sentence for the link to sign up for our Philadelphia area 2023 Christmas tree photo sessions at Tom's Tree Farm in Phoenixvlle As the weather get’s cooler families start to look for their fall/winter holiday photo sources and that is usually in the form of a mini session. My name is Liz from Star Field and as a Mom to a 4 year old and a mini session and wedding photographer myself I have been wanting to share with my clients and anyone looking for a great mini session experience- some of the tips I have realized that can maximize your photo mini session experience among the trees. I have been photographing mini sesssions for the last 10 years and have seen scores of families, singles and couples come out for photos. By the way - check out our link on the website to our next mini sessions. They will be at Tom’s Christmas Tree Farm in Royersford PA on November 12th and November 4th. Our mini sessions typically run for 25 minutes and you will receive all of the best photos from your sessions. But here are 7 tips!

  1. Schedule photos with a photographer who does Christmas tree photos in October or early November ( like me). This way you have warmer weather and can have the option to wear clothing for 60 degree temperatures or your warm woolen hat and coats… because you can wear the scarves hats and coats even if it is a bit warm.

  2. Colors to wear. You can never go wrong with white, neutrals and shades of red and your blue jeans while taking pictures among the trees. Take a picture of your outfit to see how it photographs before photo day. Some materials photograph better than others. Cotton and linen photogrpah beautifully.

  3. Don’t hesitate to book that early morning photo mini session! You can capture that crystal frost on the trees if you schedule for that early morning session. It may be the most beautiful background for photos possible! Plus then you have a full day afterwards to do other activitites

    4. Make Mini sessions a yearly tradition. Schedule your mini session as part of a bigger and fun outing. First thing would be photos but have something to look forward to after the mini session as well whether it be a playground or going out to lunch or dinner or visiting a farm.

  4. Schedule your photos for the best and most convenient time of day for your family. Skip sports that day so no one is stressed from rushing from activities.

The order of Priority should be

    1. Convenience of time for your family.

    2. Try to choose a time with better lighting like early morning or closer to sunet.”

  5. Here is my biggest photographic tip! Have everyone show their hands. As many art students know there is something about hands in a portrait that can make or break an image. On that note… guys… keep your arms to your sides… or it stretches out your shirt and coat in the front.

  6. Families walking through the trees have been some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken. So make sure to get one where you are all walking together.

I hope that these tips can help you with your photos! Cheers and happy holidays !
